100 Sunset
Synopsis
New to the neighbourhood of Parkdale, introverted Kunsel observes the residents of her apartment complex, 100 Sunset, and occasionally steals from them. She becomes intrigued by Passang, a newly arrived neighbour unhappily married to a much older man, and the two women connect. The backdrop is 'Dukuti', an informal community credit system where members contribute an amount each month with one household taking the collective pot. This windfall tempts Passang to explore a route of escape. An assured debut feature, 100 Sunset builds a detailed world in which non-professional actors paint a vibrant portrait of a Tibetan community far removed from their land but deeply entrenched in their customs and traditions.
