Synopsis

An unflinching, critically acclaimed film from the Ukranian frontlines by Oscar-winner Mstylslav Chernov, following soldiers on a mission to liberate Russian-occupied Andriivka.

The village of Andriivka is just 2,000 metres away, but the distance is riddled with landmines and under constant attack. The Ukrainian men press on, capturing the perilous journey via bodycam. Director Mstylslav Chernov, whose 20 Days in Mariupol won the Best Documentary Oscar in 2024, marshals the soldiers’ footage into a brutally immersive document that captures war’s immediate reality like never before. Personal reflections from the soldiers are also interwoven, revealing their hopes, fears, and, in many cases, heartbreaking fates. Stripping away abstraction, Chernov delivers another crucial, confronting, and impossible-to-ignore film. Winner, Sundance World Cinema Documentary Directing Award; CPH:DOX F:ACT AWARD.

Limited seats are available for patrons requiring access for wheelchairs, low vision and hearing loop. Please contact our ticketing team directly on 1300 733 733 or tickets@sff.org.au to complete your booking.

Chernov once again gives us a heartbreaking and honest look at the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
