Synopsis

Emotionally raw and deeply intimate, this Tribeca award-winner by one of Variety’s 2025 “Directors to Watch” charts a young woman’s tailspin after the tragic loss of her brother.

After losing her younger brother Nati, Eden (Lia Elalouf) is overcome by grief. She tries everything she can to numb the pain, heading out clubbing and seeking ill-advised hook-ups with her (married, unavailable) lover. Stalking Nati’s old social media posts, Eden discovers he had a secret girlfriend – the sweet, shy Maya. Eden tracks Maya down, and the two form a fraught, passionate bond. Breakout performer Elalouf is electric as Eden, who emerges as a forcefully seductive, fascinatingly imperfect character. Winner of the Viewpoints Award at Tribeca for boundary-pushing cinema, Come Closer is a complex and authentic portrait of grief, based on debut director Tom Nesher’s own experience of losing her brother.

Limited seats are available for patrons requiring access for wheelchairs, low vision and hearing loop. Please contact our ticketing team directly on 1300 733 733 or tickets@sff.org.au to complete your booking.

A sexy, modern and uncommonly introspective debut feature.
