Daughter’s Daughter
Synopsis
Jin Aixia is a 64-year-old divorcee with two daughters. One, Emma, she had as a teenager and gave up for adoption. The other, Zuer, she raised herself in Taipei. Zuer, to her mothers’s disappointment, has grown up and moved to New York with her partner to seek IVF treatment. But a tragic car accident claims their lives. A bereft Aixia inherits her daughter’s fertilised embryo, and an impossible choice – donate, implant or destroy them. Aixia travels to New York to process Zuer’s death and the moral dilemma, all the while facing up to her lost relationship with Emma. Told in a non-chronological order, Huang Xi’s tapestry is accomplished, intricate, and deeply affecting, with an emotionally rich and fragile performance from Chang.
