Synopsis

The aftermath of a woman’s separation unspools over the course of seven car trips in this structurally inventive realist drama. Venice 2024.

Hungarian director Zsófia Szilágyi (SFF 2018, One Day) crafts another temporal capsule that captures the finer details of our closest relationships. Her minimalist second feature is a micro-road movie set at a point of new beginnings: it’s a new year and Ági (Jóvári Csenge) is determined to help her best friend Klára (Zsuzsanna Konrád) move out of her husband’s home after their recent separation. Within a day, the two friends take the same car trip seven times, ferrying Klára’s belongings to her new home. Through assured direction and absorbing, naturalistic conversations, Szilágyi reveals subtle new anxieties with each journey, crafting a lived-in portrayal of female friendship and the challenges of starting afresh.

Limited seats are available for patrons requiring access for wheelchairs, low vision and hearing loop. Please contact our ticketing team directly on 1300 733 733 or tickets@sff.org.au to complete your booking.

The auteur’s lens reveals subtle psychological nuances in the characters, turning the seemingly banal into a philosophical study. Just as in Greek drama.
