Synopsis

A Corsican shepherd goes on the run when threatened by property developers and Mafiosi in this compelling contemporary western. Venice, 2024; Audience award, Thessaloniki 2024.

Known locally as “The Last of the Mohicans,” Joseph Cardelli is the only remaining goatherd on the coast of Corsica. When he refuses “an offer he can’t refuse” for his prized land – on this island beloved of holidaymakers – things spiral out of control, leaving one man dead and Joseph running from both police and the mob. Frédéric Farrucci’s beautifully filmed second feature adopts the shape of a classical western but infuses it with contemporary thriller elements as Joseph’s young niece Vannina utilises social media to rally support for her uncle. Actor-writer Alexis Manenti (Les Misérables, SFF 2019) is superb as the taciturn Joseph, a man whose plight speaks loudly about matters of universal concern.

Limited seats are available for patrons requiring access for wheelchairs, low vision and hearing loop. Please contact our ticketing team directly on 1300 733 733 or tickets@sff.org.au to complete your booking.

Frédéric Farrucci delivers a thrilling modern western.
