Twelve Moons
Synopsis
Increasingly despondent at her inability to have a child, the affluent, 40-year-old architect Sofia (Ana de la Reguera, superb) indulges in everything she can – weed, alcohol, cocaine – to dull the pain. After one bender too many, and an intervention, she’s forced into rehab. But the continued decline of her personal and professional fortunes drives Sofia to increasingly risky behaviour, fuelled too by her husband’s indifference. Soon she finds herself out on the streets, in need of some great inner resolve to find her way back to life. Produced by Michel Franco (whose Dreams plays at SFF this year), Twelve Moons is filled with images both extremely beautiful and very disturbing, making for an indelible debut.
